Ace Your Next Tech Interview

From system design to behavioral questions, here is the complete guide to showcasing your skills and landing your dream role.

Technical Coding

Target algorithms and data structures. Practice generic problems, but focusing on clean, readable code.

System Design

For senior roles, practice designing scalable systems. Understand trade-offs between consistency and availability.

Behavioral

Prepare stories using the STAR method. Show cultural fit, leadership, and how you handle conflict.

1Before the Interview

Preparation is 90% of success. Don't just research the tech stack—research the company culture, their recent challenges, and their engineering blog.

  • Review the Job Description: Map your skills directly to their requirements. Have a story ready for every "must-have" skill.
  • Refresh Core Concepts: If you are applying for a backend role, refresh on databases and APIs. For frontend, know clarity on DOM manipulation and state management.
  • Research the Interviewers: Look them up on LinkedIn to understand their background and ask relevant questions.

2The STAR Method

"Tell me about a time you failed."

Behavioral questions trip up many great engineers. Use the STAR method to structure your answers clearly:

S - Situation

Set the scene and necessary details of your example.

T - Task

Describe what your responsibility was in that situation.

A - Action

Explain exactly what steps you took to address it.

R - Result

Share what outcomes your actions achieved.

3Remote Interview Etiquette

Tech Check

Test your camera, microphone, and internet connection 15 minutes before. Have a backup hotspot ready. Ensure good lighting so your face is clearly visible.

Communication

Look at the camera, not the screen, to simulate eye contact. Speak slowly and clearly. Pause after questions to ensure the audio doesn't overlap.
